What office workers do that I sometimes wish I could

I frequently work at a coworking space, and there’s something that I’ve noticed: people with regular jobs do something that I can’t really afford to do.

I’ve seen how some people start their day: they arrive at the office, grab coffee, check emails, chat a bit with their neighbor, and then have their first meeting of the day. The meeting ends, and they roam around for a bit before finally sitting down and doing some actual work, and the cycle repeats itself throughout the day.

What I find interesting is that for writers and translators, freelance or not, it’s essential to have big chunks of uninterrupted work. I’d say that I need at least a couple of hours of deep work for me to be able to make tangible progress on a project.

How do you keep focus as a freelancer? Do you have an office at home, do you go to a place outside home, or something else?

The truth is that I also want to be able to be social when I’m at a coworking space, and that balance between being ”locked-in” and being open to social interaction is tricky.

I’m interested in knowing how you structure your day so that you can have enough time for deep work.
